About

My Story

I started my journey in fitness training at the age of 18 in strength training and marathon running. After I graduated with my M.Sc in Biology, I was able to focus on one of the sports that has always called to me : Muay thai. After joining Fight Factory, it quickly became one of my life passions, and obsessed with the desire for discipline. I started competitively training in Muay thai for a couple years, and was diagnosed with a chronic spinal injury that limited my abilities to compete. Countless doctors have told me I would never be able to train martial arts again and to give up my passion. I never lost hope in myself and my passion.

This heartbreaking situation led me to completely change the way I saw strength and conditioning, and the importance of mobility and injury prevention.

I started researching the impacts of mobility on athletic performance and strength. I completely changed the way I trained to heal my injury and be able to train again one day. After my debilitating injuries, I went from being bedridden to lifting and training muay thai again in months - off of sheer will and determination.

This sport has changed me for the better as a person. I became stronger not only physically, but mentally as well. My coaches pushed me and believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself.

Although I am unable to compete, I am shifting that energy into helping people get better in living a healthy life, inspiring women to train martial arts for self defense and also inspiring them to believe in themselves in every way possible - just like how my coaches did for me.

I truly believe this is my life’s purpose and what God intended for me to do.

How am I as a coach?

Coach Lina is an initiative I am starting because I recognize some gaps to be filled in the fitness, martial arts, and muslim community. I have been strength training for over a decade and have worked in a commercial gym for years. In the past five years, I have focused on competitive Muay Thai and injury prevention/mobility.

There are too many barriers in the fitness industry that make it difficult for women to train and practice sports - cultural and stereotypical barriers.

I want to break those barriers. We are all meant to take care of ourselves physically and mentally - equally. Prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon Him) said: “ …”

Come join the initiative. It’s Sunnah.
